WELCOME!                       Our appreciation to the Texas State Highway Patrol for this information.

According to the Texas Transportation Code, section 545.413 , all persons sitting in the front seat of a vehicle in Texas, regardless of age, are required to wear a seatbelt. Law enforcement officers can stop a vehicle solely for violations of this law.

According to Senate Bill 113 (passed in 2001), car seats are required children under 4 or less than 36 inches in height. Anyone under the age of 17 must wear a seatbelt, no matter where they sit in the vehicle.

People riding in large pickups, including one-ton pickups, must wear seatbelts, no matter where they sit in the vehicle.

Experts recommend that children be in a booster seat until the seat belt fits in a manner that provides maximum protection--that is, across the chest and hips with the child's legs bending at the knee over the bottom of the vehicle seat. (This usually happens around their eighth birthday.)
